Summa, Summa, Summa-TIIIME! Time to sit back and unwind!
It’s here! It’s summer! It’s hot! And what better way to combat the heat (“beat the heat” seemed too easy [and you can’t really BEAT the heat {I mean…it’s nature! Nature always wins! <Have you ever SEEN The Day After Tomorrow?>}]) than with a nice cold craft beer!
I’ve been very fortunate over the last few years to be able to meet amazing people with amazing jobs. Some of those amazing people are the brains behind Superfly Fabulous Events. I’ve been able to attend several of the events produced by Superfly Fabulous. Three Thirsty Oranges, Two Kingsport Oktoberfests, A Brewhibition (and a partridge in a pear tree [What’d we JUST SAY about things being too easy, Hunter?! {…..sorry}]), and most recently, the first ever Blue Hop Brew-Haha event in Johnson City, TN as a part of the 16th annual Blue Plum Music Festival. Located at the beautiful Founders Park right outside of the historic Blue Plum Arts District in Downtown Johnson City, several craft brewers brought their best offerings to be paired with delicious foods from Bonefish Grill (shrimp tostadas), Carrabba’s (ravioli), and Tupelo Honey Café (fried okra). After sampling all the beers and foods that the Brew-Haha had to offer, I went back for seconds of some of my favorites of the festival. I was a big fan of the Blue Point Brewing Company’s Blueberry Ale (if you know anything about my usual taste in beer [I’m looking at you, Sweetwater Blue], that doesn’t surprise you). The people over at Ciderboys also brought two of their delicious ciders, their Strawberry Magic and Peach Country (which reminded me of two of my favorite wines from the Apple Barn Winery in Sevierville, TN). Rounding out my top drinks of the day was the festival exclusive Blue Plum Ale from the local Johnson City Brewing Company. Made with actual plums, the Blue Plum Ale was a wonderfully refreshing beer to sip while I watched some of the beautiful aerial silk dancing performed by the Aloft Aerial Arts Studio.
All in all, it was a great way to spend a summer (summa) afternoon. The beers (mostly lighter beers) were perfect for the weather, and the free foods offered by the vendors made the Brew-HaHa seem like a more exclusive event (a VIP after party, if you will).
Superfly Fabulous’s next event will be the Angel’s Share Beer Festival on July 18th at the Hunter-Wright Stadium in Kingsport, TN as a part of Fun Fest. Tickets are on sale now.
